I am sure you are wondering what this has to do with #projectmanagement and #leadership. These interesting times take a lot out of us. It is so easy to just slump in front of the TV during this time of self isolation and watch netflix. However if you want to stay fit, healthy and mentally fit, you need to have a plan.
If you do not have a plan you, your kids and the rest of the family will get bored, start snapping at each other and start losing it. Especially weekends, which used to be times we go out, socialize and have a good time with friends and extended family. In our new reality that is not possible any more. This is a great time to re-think and re-plan how you interact and enjoy your weekends as a family. Focus on what you can do. Think of it as team building for your Core Team - the family.
Playing games as a family teaches us so much:
- you learn to win & lose
- you learn to be fair with each other
- you learn having temper fits is not an option
- you learn to interact with each other.
Why don't you give it an agile approach? Let the family decide. Have a meeting, where you discuss the options and make a plan for your weekend. Have the meeting on Friday evening and write it down, so that everyone is aware of the plans. Do a mix of activities and don't forget to include a way of getting fresh air - even if you just sit at the open window as a family and look for things you have never seen - and exercise.
Get the old puzzle out and do it as a family, over several days.
Get cards, board games, lego, Jenga or any other game out and start getting creative as a family. Schedule time for TV as well, but do it as a family, watch an age appropriate movie with the kids.
You will be amazed how this will change the dynamics in your family.
